The Madhya Ganga Canal Project Stage-II (U.P.) envisages utilisation of surplus water of river Ganga during monsoon season by diverting it through left regulator of already constructed barrage of Madhy Ganga Pariyojna Ph.-I at Bijnore for development of 1.46 lakh ha Irrigation potential in district Moradabad, Amroha and Sambhal. 
The Project was approved by TAC of MOWR,RD&GR in July, 2007 and was accorded investment clearance for Rs 1060.76 crore from planning commission. Cost of the project was revised to 2865.11 crore in year 2012. Further the cost revision on 2016 Price level was done and Fast Track Performa Clearance was accorded by Central Water Commission for 4417.21 crore (4284.46 Crore for works).
