Functions of Upper Ganga Basin Organisation

  • Hydro - meteorological observations at 148 Hydrological Observation sites and 7 Snow Gauge sites on River Ganga and its tributaries.
  • Compilation of Hydro - meteorological data and its dissemination. 
  • Flood Forecasting (with 23 level forecast and 5 Inflow forecast stations) at important locations along Ganga River and its Tributaries.
  • Water Quality Monitoring at 38 stations and 33 sampling locations on River Ganga & its Tributaries.
  • Morphological study of River Ganga.
  • Monitoring & Appraisal of Major, Medium & Minor Irrigation Projects under General, AIBP, National Projects and CADWM in U. P. & Uttarakhand.
  • Appraisal and Monitoring of Schemes under Repair, Renovation and Restoration (RRR) of Uttar Pradesh.
  • Monitoring of schemes under FMP.
  • Providing Technical Assistance to states of UP & Uttarakhand in Water Resources Development and Management.
  • Coordination with the State Governments on matters relating to Monitoring and Appraisal and other issues referred by CWC / MoWR, RD & GR.
  • Publicity & Awareness related to Water and River Conservation.
  • Monitoring of e-flow implementation on Ganga River.
  • Special studies as assigned by CWC headquarters/Ministry from time to time.
  • Assistance to state in implementation of National Hydrology Project and Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (Phase II).
