Activities of Hydrological Studies Organisation
Organization contains following Directorates and their activities are as under:

Hydrology (North East) Directorate:
Hydrology (NE) directorate is entrusted with the work of technical appraisal of hydrological aspects like water availability, design flood, sedimentation, diversion flood of water resources projects in north eastern region including Bhutan and providing guidance/assistance to WAPCOS, NEEPCO, NHP and State Water Resources Departments in undertaking hydrological studies. Matters related to Special Studies (Flood Simulation, possible diversion of Indus water of China, Brahmaputra matter with China, storage issues of Brahmaputra backwater, GLOF Flood estimation due to land slide dam breach, International issues (Bangladesh, China & Bhutan). E-Flow Studies, Secretarial work of EAC of MoEF are being dealt in Hydrology (NE) Directorate. . This Directorate would coordinate activities of the Organization for keeping a watch on latest development/identification of stress areas in the field of Hydrology and identifying areas of Research in the sphere of activities and carrying out research in house/by other agencies by respective directorates by holding regular organization meetings in this regard and informing the details to the Committee on Civil and Hydro Mechanical Designs for further deliberations. This Directorate would submit agenda points to D&R Coordination directorate for consideration/deliberation of Members in a Commission Meeting, and suggest measures for possible realignment of Organization activities/capacity building of its Human resources etc

Hydrology (North) Directorate:
Hydrology (N) directorate is entrusted with the work of technical appraisal of hydrological aspects like water availability, design flood, sedimentation, diversion flood of water resources projects in North India region comprising States of J&K, HP, UP, Bihar, Uttrakhand, MP, Punjab, Haryana Gujarat and Rajasthan and also carrying out hydrological studies of Indo-Nepal Joint Venture Projects like Sapta Kosi, Sun Kosi and Kamlain Nepal and providing guidance/assistance to WAPCOS, NHPC, State Govt. Water Resources Departments in undertaking hydrological studies. Matters related to Secretariat work of EAC for MoEF, Consultancy studies, Special Studies, International projects are being dealt in this Directorate.

Hydrology (Central) Directorate:
This directorate is entrusted with the work of technical appraisal of hydrological aspects like water availability, design flood; sedimentation and diversion flood of water resources projects in Narmada Basin. Co-ordination works and revision of BIS codes pertaining to WRD-IO are being dealt in this Directorate.

Hydrology (South) Directorate:
Hydrology (South) directorate is entrusted with the work of technical appraisal of hydrological aspects like water availability, design flood, sedimentation and diversion flood of water resources projects in Southern States of AP, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Sikkim, Chhattisgarh and Andaman & Nicobar Island and providing guidance/assistance to WAPCOS,NHPC, NEEPCO, State Govt. Water Resources Departments in undertaking hydrological studies. Matters related to National Hydrology Project, HAD-SW, NWDA activities, inter-state issues, revision of BIS Codes pertaining to WRD-I, Consultancy Study /Special Study, Updating of PMP Atlas are being dealt in this Directorate.

Hydrology Dam Safety Review (DSR) Directorate:
The functions of this directorate are to co-ordinate & assist in design flood review studies for rehabilitation of dams related to spillway design and providing assistance to State Irrigation Departments in examining/scrutiny/review of studies on hydrological aspects. The activities relating to NIH, IAH and IHP are also being looked after by this directorate. It is Nodal directorate of CWC for DRIP. Matters related to Hydrological Studies of Projects under DRIP, Consultancy/Special Studies, Up-dation of reports of Flood Estimation Report, Interdepartmental issues regarding FEPCC are being dealt in Hydrology (DSR) Directorate. This Dte. will coordinate preparation/ updation of manual/guidelines on project hydrology, research activities in the field etc.

R&D DIVISION
The R&D Division under D&R Wing is operating and managing the plan scheme "R&D programme in Water Sector", wherein various issues are dealt with CWC, CSMRS, CWPRS & NIH. Apart from the regular activities handled by the R&D Division pertaining to INCSW, INSGW, & INCCC, R&D Division is also doing the various other works assigned directly by the Sr. Officers in the Ministry.
