Organisational Structure (Cauvery and Southern Rivers Organisation)
A. ORGANISATIONAL SET UP:
Cauvery & Southern Rivers Organisation (C&SRO) was set up with headquarters at Coimbatore in April, 1992.C&SRO is headed by Chief Engineer who is assisted by Superintending Engineer (Co-ordination) for day-to-day activities and is responsible for overall functioning of subordinate offices. The Organisation comprise Circle Office headed by a Superintending Engineer at Bengaluru, Monitoring Directorate at Chennai and Beach Erosion Directorate at Kochi.
The Circle Office, Bengaluru has three Divisions, located at Chennai, Coimbatore, and Kochi. The details of each Division are as below:
1. Southern Rivers Division (SRD), located at Coimbatore, has three Sub-Divisions located at Coimbatore, Tiruchirapalli and Madurai; all in Tamil Nadu State.
2. South Western Rivers Division (SWRD), located at Kochi, has four Sub-Divisions located at Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode (all in Kerala State) and Mangaluru in Karnataka state.
3. Hydrology Division (HD), located at Chennai, was set-up under Hydrology Project and has three Sub-Divisions located at Chennai in Tamil Nadu, Kadapa in AP and Karaikalin U.T of Puducherry
B. JURISDICTION:
1. Monitoring & Appraisal Jurisdiction:The area under the jurisdiction of CSRO for Monitoring & Appraisal purpose are states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and UT of Puducherry, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep.Works related to protection of coastline from sea erosion and implementation of Coastal Management Information System (CMIS) is also under the scope of C&SRO.
2. Hydrological Observation Jurisdiction:The river basins under this Organisation for the works Hydro-meteorological observation are as given below:
i. Cauvery Basin from Biligundulu site and downstream
ii. West flowing rivers between Tadri and Kanyakumari
iii. Pennar Basin
iv. East flowing rivers between Pennar and Cauvery
