Organization contains following Directorates and their activities are as under:

1. 1. Evaluation of Water Utilization (EWU) Directorate:

This directorate is responsible for identification and analysis of problems of under-utilization of created irrigation potential, Performance Evaluation Studies of completed. Irrigation projects through Consultants, which shall include assessment of water use efficiency, IPC-IPU Gap diagnosis, environmental, socio-economic, agro-economic & BC ratio. It shall assess water logging, soil salinity and alkalinity in MMI commands including remedial measures. It shall scrutinize the research proposals received through INCSW and discharge secretariat functions for special committee on drainage.
It will also act to promote advanced irrigation techniques over traditional ones, irrigation scheduling after determination of crop water requirement by single or dual crop coefficient method using Penman Monteith formula as recommended by FAO.
Water saving technique in thermal power units - by switching from open loop to close loop cooling system etc.

2. 2. Irrigation Performance Overview (IPO) Directorate:

IPO directorate is responsible for preparing and revising guidelines for various studies related to major and medium irrigation projects. It is also responsible for conducting water use efficiency of selected completed irrigation projects. It shall promote Water Audit and Benchmarking, in the States/UTs by developing linkages with WALMIs/IMTIs. It shall scrutinize Water use efficiency studies carried out by various agencies. It shall render expert assistance to the National Water Mission through examination of the inception, draft and final reports of the Baseline WUE Studies being conducted by the Mission. Documentation, dissemination as well as promotion of best irrigation/ agricultural practices in the country and related matter.

3. 3. Control Board and Plant & Machinery Directorate

Directorate is responsible for providing secretariat support to Chairman, CWC for matters related to Betwa River Board (BRB) and Bansagar Control Board (BCB) as Chairman, CWC is the Chairman of the Executive Committee of both BRB & BCB. Coordinating various works/issues of both Boards with CWC & DoWR, RD&GR, MoJS. Techno-economic appraisal of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) relating to the Major Irrigation & Multipurpose projects as well as Hydro-Electric Projects from Plant planning aspects as per ‘Guidelines for Preparation of DPR for Irrigation , Multipurpose Projects 2010’ .

Work related to Plant planning aspects include, Construction Methodology & Equipment Planning Construction Schedule, Cost of equipments, Providing Consultancy Services in DPRs/Chapter Preparation Providing technical assistance to Project Developer, State Government etc.
