  1. Brief profile of works of Chairman, CWC
    • Chairman, Central Water Commission heads the Commission which has three technical wings viz., Water Planning and Project (WP&P) wing; River Management (RM) wing; Design & Research (D&R) wing and Human Resource Management (HRM) Wing. CWC has general responsibility of initiating, coordinating and furthering in consultation with the State Governments concerned, schemes for the control, conservation and utilization of water resources in the respective State for the purpose of flood management, irrigation, drinking water supply, hydro power generation, etc The Commission, if so required, can undertake the construction and execution of any such scheme.
    • WP&P wing looks after the works related to Major/Medium Irrigation Projects, National Projects, Multi-Purpose Projects (appraisal, monitoring, funding, review), Inter-State issues in respect of Water Resources Projects, Irrigation Planning, Monitoring of water levels of major reservoirs in the country, matters related to International Cooperation in Water Resources Sector, Basin Level Planning/Assessment of water resources, Irrigation Management Aspects (performance of irrigation projects), Environmental Management, National Water Policy, various Boards in respect of Water Resource Projects, etc.
    • RM wing is responsible for collection, compilation, storage and retrieval of hydrological and hydro-meteorological data, issue of flood forecast on all major flood prone rivers providing guidance to States in technical matters regarding river and flood management in the country, providing advice to coastal states on issues related to coastal erosion problems, international co-operation with neighbouring countries in the field of flood management, etc.
    • D&R wing is responsible for providing guidance regarding river valley projects in the country including hydrological studies for the projects, advising state Governments/Dam owning agencies on safety aspects of dams, taking policy decisions on design and research activities, conducting site inspection of projects for which CWC provides design consultancy, providing advices on landslide/dam break disaster management issues, etc.

    • Formulation & Implementation of Schemes – Formulation, approval and implementation of schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchaee Yojana (PMKSY), Special Package for Irrigation Projects in Maharashtra, Rajasthan Feeder – Sirhind Feeder, Shahpur Kandi Dam Project, Polavaram Project, etc. Under PMKSY (launched in 2016-17), 99 Major / Medium Irrigation (MMI) projects were prioritized in the country for completion in phases. Funding arrangements for both Central and State Share made through NABARD. Number of initiatives taken such as putting in place MIS for monitoring the schemes, guidelines for implementation of Under Ground Pipe Line network, etc. to expedite the works.
    • Conflict Resolution among States: Works related to Inter-State issues, Inter-State Agreements, Administration of Inter-State River Water Disputes Act, State Reorganisation Acts, works related to various Boards, etc. During 2015, successfully resolved the issue between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh regarding the usage of Krishna river water in the absence of Tribunal Award. MoU signed among States during July 2015. Successfully handled many other inter-state issues such as related to Haryana and Rajasthan, UYRB, Joint Operation Committee of Rihand, etc.
